Church of the Sacré-Coeur

The foundation of a house for the order of the Jesuits was decided in 1855, and Arlon seemed perfectly suited for this establishment. Following the French Revolution, no religious order was present in Arlon anymore.

The success of the order was such that in September 1895 the construction of a new church dedicated to the Sacred Heart began, in Romanesque-Byzantine architecture.

Arlon hosted the second novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Belgium, open until 1967.

The social and cultural action of the Jesuits was very important for the city, among other things through the creation of a football club.
